Key Stage 3 Progress Steps

From September 2015 we are making significant changes to our monitoring and reporting of student progress at Key Stage 3 (Year 7 and 8) so that we can better:

  • Inform parents of how well their child is doing in terms of their academic progress
  • Make sure students know exactly how to improve their performance in each subject
  • Support staff in planning for progress for every student
  • Quickly identify students who are falling behind and are at risk of underachieving so that we can intervene effectively to make sure they catch up.

Our new system of monitoring progress at KS3 (years 7 and 8) uses Progress Stages for each subject. These are:

  • Foundation
  • Emerging
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced.

Each stage encompasses knowledge and skills in that subject that equates to a particular “flightpath” towards a range of GCSE grades, which will be numbered 1-9 by the time the 2015-16 Key Stage 3 students take their GCSEs.  You can find the subject specific Progress Steps” grids on the right of this page.
The table below gives the old grade to new grade conversion as at September 2015.
